Abstract: Canada Groundbirch project is the first cooperation of CNPC and Shell on unconventional tight gas. The tight gas in this region is mainly developed by long horizontal wells, which have an average horizontal section of 2200m and the maximum horizontal section of 3600m.The wellpad drilling, a new type of drilling and completion operation mode invovling batch drilling and fracturing and so on, together with conventional geosteering or new rotating steering, high efficient PDC drill bits and oil base drilling fluid, can not only improve the working efficiency and reduce the operation cost but also is more convenient for well construction and management, and especially suitable for unconventional oil and gas resources development.
