High temperature and pressure drilling fluid technology in south china sea

Western South China Sea zone is one of the three high temperature and pressure places in the world.It is characterized by high geothermal gradient,high pressure and narrow pressure window.Influence of joint high temperature and pressure to drilling fluid performance should be overcome to make sure a fast and safe drilling.Technology difficulty of water base drilling fluid under high temperature and pressure as well as influence and mechanism of high temperature and pressure to drilling fluid were simply analyzed.Drilling fluid technology suitable for high temperature and pressure wells in western South China Sea zone was summed up and researched by analyzing scientific payoffs and the practice experiences of all the 19 wells drilled between 1984 and 2004.
