First application of the new-style rotary steering tool, Power Drive Xceed, in west of South China Sea

With the development of complex and cluster wells in offshore oil field, well profiles became more and more complicated. The conventional power drilling tool and rotary steering tool generally used now gradually showed their limitation in surface, soft formation angle buildup, surface anti-collision and electric logging in high deviated wells. So, a new drilling tool is needed to overcome these problems. This paper introduced the new-style drilling tool, Power Drive Xceed, which belongs to the latest product of Schlumber rotary steering tool series. Its structure, operating principle, characteristics and development status were summarized here. Combined with its successful application at Ledong 22-1 Gasfield, its effects were described detailed. The drilling practice provides valuable reference to popularizing and applying this tool.
