Abstract
To improve the Rate Of Penetration(ROP) for drilling deep formations in Tahe Field, rotary percussion drilling technique was tested. According to the lithologic features and drilling bit type selection in the region, the fixed bit was selected, and the structural properties of jet impactor were optimized and fixed. The improved jet impactor was firstly put into usage in the super deep section of Well S116-3, combined with PDC bit, proving the feasibility of jet impactor + PDC bit, and the depth reached 6 086 m. As following, it was field applied on Well TP324, which realized the real application of the combination of jet impactor and PDC bit. As a result, the application depth range of Well S116-3 was 5 998.41~6 086 m, and it was 6 151.65~6 912 m for Well TP324, so the total penetration was 848.16 m. The total net drilling period was 314.02, and the ROP was increased by 32%~45%. The application on the two wells proved the effect and reliability of the technique in deep and super deep wells. It supplied novel way to develop Tahe deep formation.
